About the Founder
Ambassador Mariam Ashley Yusuf — A Champion for Social Justice
Mariam Ashley Yusuf is a renowned Nigerian humanitarian, social justice advocate, and former beauty queen from Benue State. With a background in Theatre Arts from Ahmadu Bello University and Media Arts from the University of Abuja, Mariam has leveraged her platform to drive meaningful change.
From Pageantry to Purpose
Mariam's public journey began in the world of modeling and beauty pageants, where she won titles such as Face of Idoma and Miss Ambassador for Peace. However, she soon transitioned from pageantry to purposeful activism, dedicating herself to combating social injustices.
As the founder of the MAY Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on combating human trafficking, sexual violence, and the marginalization of the girl-child, Mariam has led impactful initiatives. Through the foundation, she has spearheaded campaigns like "One Girl, One Pad", supported displaced communities, and collaborated with key agencies like NAPTIP to address systemic exploitation.
Recognition and Impact
Mariam's tireless advocacy has earned her national and international recognition, including the prestigious African Icon Award in Ghana. As a symbolic ambassador for clean water, education, and women's rights, she continues to inspire a new generation of African women to rise, speak, and lead with purpose.
About MAY Foundation
The Mariam Ashley Yusuf (MAY) Foundation is a non-political, non-religious, and not-for-profit humanitarian focused organization committed to promoting better access to healthcare, economic empowerment and the rights of the girl child and women.
Since our inception in 2018, we have carried out various initiatives and advocacies against gender-based violence, women trafficking and exploitation, and economic upliftment. It is our desire that every citizen is able to live a fulfilled life and achieve their aspirations without hindrance.
